Graymour 4H Club
Graymour Stables is host to one of the largest agriculture-related 4-H groups in the county. Through our facilities, 4-H participants have the opportunity to learn about barn, equestrian and other animal-related fields and show off their skills at local shows and events. Graymour 4-H Club welcomes children ages 6-19 who are a part of or interested in 4-H to join us for meetings and hands-on activities like caring for baby chicks, community service projects, and of course, horses!
What is 4-H?
From the 4-H.org website:
Turning ideas into action, 4-H youth are becoming everyday heroes who persevere through challenges to leave lasting, positive impacts on their communities. Through the work of caring mentors, 4-H - a positive youth development organization - is cultivating a growing number of America's youth to lead us in a Revolution of Responsibility. Their commitment challenges us all to join the movement toward meaningful change.
Children ages 6-19 may join 4-H, though any adult may volunteer as a team leader. 4-H is a member-run organization where participants may work on a wide variety of projects relating to hobbies or interests. A member does not need to own a specific animal or be skilled in a certain area to do a 4-H project.
Graymour Stables provides and assists with many animal-related projects including Horses, Chickens and Arts & Crafts, but many other projects are available. 4-H also develops life-skills such as writing and putting together a portfolio, teamwork and leadership opportunities. Please see the official 4-H.org website for more information.
Getting Involved
If you are interested in enrolling in 4-H as a member or team leader, you may attend our next 4-H meeting (click here for our 4-H news) and fill out a sign up sheet for each child which we will mail to our local 4-H office. (Clemson University) Or alternatively, you may ask Donna Jones for a form to fill out at your next lesson. 4-H dues are 10$ per child.
Unlike many other youth programs, members are allowed to be a part of more than one group at a time. Once a member of 4-H, you may join any group you like. However, some groups may have different rules regarding eligability. (IE: Age limits.) 4-H is member-run and participation in any meeting or event is totally optional. If you are interested in joining, or are already a member of 4-H and would like more information on our group, please contact us!
